Thank you, videogames

Don't know why but for the past several weeks, every time I wake up I have this crappy feeling... like I'm frustrated, but for no valid reason. Maybe because I don't have much that I look forward to doing (besides work, sadly). It's not so bad on weekdays because I'd not have much time to mull over what to do -- the moment I'm up I'm rushing off to work, and before I know it, the day is gone. I somehow hate the feeling of waking up on weekends... when I don't have much planned to do. But it's not like there's nothing to do. There are many things to do (that I should be doing as well), but I just don't seem to have the mood or motivation to do anything at all!

When I woke up on Saturday, I was rolling around in bed with that familiar crappy feeling of not having the mood to do anything. Then for some odd reason, I thought about Baldur's Gate II. That drove me to get out of bed to install it. Was crossing my fingers, hoping that it'll work on my notebook that runs Vista. 4 install discs later, it was time to launch the game.

And oh my Lord does it look sweet. When I first played the game 8 years ago, it was on a lower end machine. I thought the game already looked pretty spanking good back then. But now it's truly in its full glory... and it looks absolutely breathtaking.

Played Baldur's Gate II till the wee hours of the morning (like 7am ugh) -- had to pry myself away from the PC to go to bed. Usually if I sleep hours like this I'd wake up feeling like the crappiness has magnified.

But oooh... today I woke up feeling great. Never had this feeling for weeks already! And for some reason, I suddenly have the mood and motivation to do the things that I should be doing. What a great feeling!

All the crappiness that I had felt for the past several weeks have disappeared. I now feel <strike>like a joint-smoking hippie with a flower in my hand</strike> that I finally have the motivation to be productive!

Strange, but true. Haven't been playing videogames for weeks now (aha! so that's whyyy)... well, I know that it usually takes away my frustrations, but never quite know it can also motivate me. LOL o_O

Bad snatch thief

This happened on the same Friday night some of us went to Mage Cafe. I went to meet up with a friend for drinks at SS2 Murni's after that. Never thought something like this would happen to me, since I'm so careful. But it's like they just know exactly when you let you guard down -- even if it was for just a few seconds!

I'm usually very cautious when I'm on the road, since I'm quite paranoid when it comes to snatch thieves and all. But just when I let my guard down for a few seconds to open my car door while talking to my friend (who was walking beside me), I suddenly heard a familiar buzz of a motorcycle coming from behind me -- and this was in the opposite direction of the one way street.

The moment I heard the sound, I thought to myself, "uh oh, I think something bad is going to h...". A split second after that, I felt contact on my handbag (which straps were hanging around my right arm) and I immediately knew I was in for trouble. Naturally, I started to scream and shriek like there was no tomorrow.

The motorcyclist yanked the handbag from my arm -- he yanked it very hard and my arm really hurt. The force threw me off-balance, so I nearly fell but my friend was quick to catch me. I was still screaming. My friend, who had just realised what had happened, aggressively shouted "HOI!!!" at the snatch thief. There was only one motorcyclist. He was speeding off when something fell from his motorcycle onto the road. I didn't have my spectacles on so I couldn't really see what it was. The thief was several meters ahead when he realised that he had dropped something, so he turned around to look. He hesitated for a second, but he decided against turning back to retrieve it, and continued to speed away. It all happened so fast.

When he was out of sight, both my friend and I stood there staring at the object the thief dropped for a second. It was... my handbag. Huh? He already took out my wallet and didn't need the handbag anymore? So fast? Ah, who cares! I ran towards my handbag, grabbed it and scrambled around to look for my car keys. All I could think of was to get out of there before the thief comes back with his mat rempit friends or something. My car keys were lying two meters behind where I stood when the incident happened. Turns out I had flung my arms in the air (probably trying to catch my balance) when the thief was snatching my bag from me.

It was only until I got into my car that I realised... the thief actually dropped my entire handbag! But I wasn't entirely sure since my handbag was all torn up. Regardless, I didn't really want to confirm it then. All I wanted was to get out of that place.

I remember trembling as I drove all the way home. I was terribly frightened and in shock.

My friend came home with me to make sure I was safe. And we discussed what happened after that...

It's strange how on that night, I had decided not to use my usual Guess handbag, and instead opted for the "very cheap RM20 only -- I got us 3!" handbag my sister bought for the entire family. Also, for some reason, I decided to stuff every single portable gadget I own into the bag -- including an NDS charger! The bag was so full I almost couldn't zip it up. And because the bag was so cheap, 3/4 of its straps snapped when the thief yanked it from my arm. And because it also weighed like a tonne of bricks from all the gadgets, the thief probably couldn't hold it properly when he was trying to get away. So he accidentally dropped it! Just like the blardy idiot he is.

I couldn't sleep alone that night. I didn't feel safe at home either so I slept over at my friend's place. Sigh. Even now I'm still rather shaken from the incident that I'm still afraid to go out at night. I guess I was really lucky that nothing really bad happened (apart from a few bad bruises on my arm). I've heard stories that victims sometimes get dragged along the road when their bag straps don't snap (like mine). Or get their arms sliced up by the snatch thieves. Or worse, some victims have died after hitting their heads on the road or against sharp objects lying around on the road. Gulp!

Really... thank goodness nothing bad happened. From now on, I'm all for cheap handbags! Or deep pants pockets!

Beowulf - MUST WATCH (spoiler-free)

Just saw Beowulf on the big screen... (not IMAX, just the normal cinema)

OMG THE CG IS DAMN AWESOME TO THE MAXIMUS DOT COM!!!

At first when I saw the poster for Beowulf I thought it was some chapalang horror/thriller movie that involves some monster terrorising villagers and freaking the hell out of them while everyone just screams and screams.

Oh wait, come to think of it... it is a movie that involves that. But one thing's for sure -- it ain't no B grade chapalang movie!

What makes it so awesome is it's all CG -- and this CG is by far the best my eyes have ever seen. I always thought it would be some time before we can witness such a high amount of realism in 3D human modeling (especially when it comes to those very tricky facial expressions).

Usually when you're watching 3D models of humans in movies, your thoughts would be along the lines of "it's CG alright, but it looks damn real". You'll usually realise first that it's CG before thinking that they're human actors. But when I was watching Beowulf, I first thought of them as real humans before realising -- with plenty of double-takes -- that it's pure CG.

Amazing. Must watch.

Some funny thoughts:
- Oh... if you ever feel the urge to say "tonight, we dine in..." (insert favourite 300 spartan movie quote) during some parts of the movie... I can identify with you
- If you somehow thought about Austin Powers... I can also identify

If there's one thing I hated about the movie, it's Angelina Jolie's totally unnecessary fake accent. Could it be that she's confused with the other movie (Alexander) where she also plays "the mother" role? Gee, I love you Angelina, but slang-bang fake accent... ugh.

C2AGE pictures up!

Anyway, after spending many hours post-processing the photos, I finally got them up on my website. Check them out: http://www.vironia.net/pix/c2age07/

There are some errors there (there's a repeat picture) and I accidentally put in some unintended photos as well. >_>
How? Well, I didn't want to bother coding a thumbnail gallery in html (not fun when you have many pix), so I wrote a script that would automate the entire process for me -- including the generation of thumbnails. Yes, it looks a little shabby, but I can't complain -- with the script, I only need to click on a button and everything is done within a minute, compared to spending an hour or more hardcoding everything. So yeah.

Anyway, sorry that this post came in pretty late. Do bear with me. My network card got struck by lighting (I think) a few days ago and I couldn't go online (boohoo). Well, I could, by going to a cybercafe and what not, but I decided to spend that time doing chores like my laundry instead.
And thanks to that, I now have clean clothes to wear, wheeeee. Ah, the smell of fresh warm laundry. XD

Safer route

Ok, just realised that LJ has a cool "new" feature that allows me to limit journal entries to certain groups of people (aww, c'mon, I've not visited LJ in years -- it's new to me XD). So, I've put all the old sensitive posts into the private category.
Sorry, I would have liked to keep it public but then you're going to find out what an emo kid I was... and well, I could probably do without the embarrassment.
There's Something About Christy

I ran a search on my name, Christy. Got a bunch of results... which were very... spooky? If you ran a search on Christy, you'd find that the majority of them are born on the same year as I. I found a Christy Lee, and she's 19 too. Also, another thing... The Christy Lee-s on .com .net are all in the same field as I am. Hmm, are Christy's more creative or what? Hahah...
